Canon of Eclipses
The Canon of Eclipses by Theodor Ritter von Oppolzer , published in 1887 by the Austrian Academy of Sciences , is a compilation of more than 13,000 eclipses, of which 8,000 are solar and 5,200 are lunar eclipses . It contains all solar eclipses and all umbra eclipses of the moon between 1207 BC. BC and AD 2162. In addition to a description of the calculation method, the canon contains the essential parameters of every solar eclipse as well as a graphic representation of the totality path on the earth's surface, determined from the sunrise, midday and sunset points.
A new edition was published by Dover Books in 1962 .
From today's point of view, it hardly seems possible that such a work was created in terms of accuracy and scope only with human labor and without the help of calculating machines .
