The listed Wolframshof Castle is located in the district of the same name in the Upper Palatinate municipality of Kastl in the Tirschenreuth district (Wolframshof 19). The moated castle is located 500 meters northwest of the center of Kastl on an island in the Haidenaab , along which an old road once led from the Rauhen Kulm to the neighboring Kastl.

history

Wolframshof is first mentioned in a document from Emperor Heinrich III in 1054 . mentioned as villa Wolframmesdorf . In the 11th century, the construction of a castle complex on the island in Haidenaab can also be assumed. The first known owners were the Zirkendorfer , followed by the Potzlinger zu Ernstfeld , the Brucker and then the Gotzfelder (late 14th century). Is mentioned by name Konrad of Gotzfeld († 1383), which in the Leuchtenberger called Lehen book. In 1408 the castle came to the Ochs through inheritance and purchase . Hans Ochs († 1445) is enfeoffed with one half of the castle and the mill by the Leuchtenbergers, the other half he and his brothers own as free . In 1418 the entire property goes to his brother Ulrich Ochs . After his death, Konrad Sparnberger , Konrad Redwitzer and Jörg Steinhauser (sons-in-law) as well as Jörg Ochs split the property among themselves. In 1448 Conrad Redtwitzer zu Redtwitz received the seat of Wolffartzhof and the mill there. In 1468 the castle goes to Lorenz Sparnberger , the son of Konrad . In 1487 Caspar Sparnberger was enfeoffed with it. In 1634 the last Sparnberger dies and the fiefdom falls back. However, from 1617 the Löschwitz are mentioned as the owner and from 1728 that of Lindenfels . The latter family existed with Max Wolfgang von Lindenfels (* July 12, 1908, † November 28, 1982) as the last representative of this line until 1982. Maria Sophia Reichsfreiin von Lindenfels was born in 1745 on Wolframshof , the mother of the pianist and singer Therese von Zandt .

Wolframshof Castle then and now

Initially, the complex seems to have been a moth built as a log house , which was expanded into a stone building in the 13th century. A tombstone from the time around 1200 with two disc crosses (sometimes referred to as the "Bonifazius stone") that is now walled in in house no. 24 could come from the castle chapel at the time. Three coat of arms stones from the castle from the 17th century are embedded in the outer walls of a new building (Wolframshof 24).

In 1599 the Ökonomiehof was laid out under Georg Wolf Sparnberg . A coat of arms stone of Carl Christian Ernst von Lindenfels with the year 1725 can be found above the basket arch portal of the palace . In 1899 the palace was rebuilt in the neo- baroque style. It burned down completely in 1921, but was rebuilt. In the past, the complex was surrounded by a curtain wall and a moat, and there was also a bailey. Before the fire, the Wolframshof castle building was a simple two-story building with an extremely steep gable roof .

The core building (from the 16th and 17th centuries) with two round towers from 1899 and 1921 and a bay-like extension has been preserved. The manor house is now a three-storey solid building with a half- hipped roof , (neo-baroque) round towers, a dwelling with triangular gable and a veranda with an outside staircase. To the north of this is the castle economy, which also has an older structure. These farm buildings form a three-sided castle courtyard. These are a barn and a coach house that form a single-storey solid building with a gable roof . The former stable, a single-storey solid building with a gable roof and a ridge turret , and the former administrator's house with a further attached stable, this is a two-story solid building with a gable roof and the year "1860" are also under monument protection . The castle's mill, which is also still preserved, stands on the west side of the Mühlbach.

Wolframshof Castle is privately owned and can be viewed from May 1, 2016 during the opening times of the café in the castle courtyard and for outdoor events.
