The Burgstall Rothenbürg describes an abandoned hilltop castle in the Lengenfeld district near Tirschenreuth in the Upper Palatinate town of Tirschenreuth in the Tirschenreuth district in Bavaria . The Burgstall was probably built in the 12th century in the early days of the settlement of the regio egere .
history
The Burgstall was first mentioned in 1332 in connection with the second Lengenfeld feud . The area was part of the Diepolding donation from 1135 to the Reichenbach monastery . The Lengenfeld feud was about a dispute between the Waldsassen Monastery and the Lengenfelders. Heinrich von Lengvelt had pledged Lengenfeld and Rothenbürg to his brother-in-law Dietrich Protschrein and had to redeem them back to the monastery after the arbitration ruling by Ortlieb des Zengers , Chunrad des Smidgadmer and Gotfried Cleistentaler. In 1337 the same Vogt was appointed to Rotenpuerge as to Lengenfeld, namely Otto Trautenberger zu Reuth .
The Burgstall is located on a wooded knoll 250 meters north-northeast of the center of Rothenbürg immediately above the village and can be reached on a path. The rock group located here was surrounded on all sides with a wall and ditch, which was partly unnecessary in the south due to the steep slope. In the west there was another ditch and a wide wall in front of it. A berm is in front of the rock group on the southern slope . Access to the rock group is from the west. The plateau on the rock group has been artificially created and has shallow pits. In 1823 there was talk of a ruin Rothenbürg, today there is no more rising masonry. High medieval ceramics were found in the area of the castle .
