Friedenfels Castle 2004

The Friedenfels Castle stands on a sloping hillside facing south and west in Friedenfels (municipality Friedenfels) in Tirschenreuth .

North of the castle in front of the castle is the four-sided closed, in its present form probably built around 1800, with the house of the manager. In the south-western corner of the farmyard, part of the former stables was converted into an evangelical palace chapel, consecrated in 1986. Immediately to the west of the farm, separated by a path, the Catholic Church rises. To the west of the church, in the middle of a large lawn, is the so-called Small Castle, built in 1778 (chronogram portal frame), which was extended to the north in the second half of the 19th century. The palace building stands in the middle of a park, the oldest part of which, an elongated avenue in the south-east of the park, probably dates back to the 18th century.

The castle was built by Friedrich Sittich Notthracht von Weißenstein around 1590. The name of Schloss Friedenfels is linked to the quarrel between the brothers Christoph and Friedrich Sittich Notthracht , of whom their guardian once said it would not do any good if they lived together in one house, even if they “had two special kitchens”. The younger one was happy to have finally found peace with his brother after the division of the estate and therefore called his new castle Friedenfels. Until 1882 Schloss Friedenfels was owned by the Barons Notthracht von Weißenstein. Then it was acquired by the Kommerzienrat Gustav Siegle (1840–1905), under whom the palace was given its present appearance in 1900 after a reconstruction according to plans by the Munich architect Emanuel von Seidel . Siegles daughter Dora (1877–1955) passed on to her husband Fritz von Gemmingen-Hornberg . The castle, estate and park are still owned by the Barons of Gemmingen and cannot be visited.
