"Two Ton" Tony Galento (born March 12, 1910 in Orange (New Jersey) , † July 22, 1979 as Dominick Anthony Galento ) was an American heavyweight boxer who fought against Joe Louis for the World Cup.

Career

Galento, who was best known as Two-Ton Tony but also as The Jersey Nightstick , The TNT Kid , The One-Man Riot and beer barrel that walks like a man (the beer barrel that can walk like a man) was a legend Heavyweight boxer of the 1930s. Galento ran a bar in New Jersey that had a lot of anecdotes about it. And so he stood out with pithy sayings and an attitude that reminded many of John L. Sullivan . He was available for any promotion, wrestling with an octopus, fought a kangaroo and showed himself with a bear. His favorite saying was: "I'll moider da bum" (for example : "I'll flatten the bum " ). For example , when he was asked whether he even knew who Shakespeare was: “I ain't never hoid of him. I suppose he's one of them foreign heavyweights. They're all lousy. Sure as hell I'll moider dd bum “ .

He had a lot of punching power in his wildly struck left hook and a world class chin, but things like defense and technique were foreign to him, he preferred rustic, dirty boxing and knew all the tricks.

He lost several times to Arturo Godoy . But since he had defeated a number of opponents of the extended world class by knockout, he was awarded a title fight against Louis in 1939, which was held on June 28, 1939 in New York. In this fight, Galento went down for the first time in his career. In the third round, however, he was close to sensation when he in turn knocked the world champion to the ground. But he turned the tables in the next round and defeated Galento with a technical knockout.

Then he had two big fights against Lou Nova , whom he defeated prematurely, and Max Baer , who in turn defeated him. Against his brother Buddy Baer he injured his hand and had to give up.

After his boxing career ended, he got a few minor roles in Hollywood films:
