The Castle Leonberg is an Outbound castle in the same oberpfälzer community Leonberg in Tirschenreuth (possibly Leonberg 22) in Bavaria .
history
The castle and the place were founded in the time of the margraviate of the Babenbergs in the north of the district. In 1224 the Babenbergers handed over tithes from the Regensburg bishop to the Waldsassen monastery . The castle belonged to the local nobles, of whom a Heinrico de Liemberg first appeared in 1202 . This is the margravial ministerial and probably the founder of the castle. In 1224 Heinrich and Gebhard von Leonberg sell a Babenberg tithe in Grossensterz to the Waldsassen monastery. In 1230 a Ernfriede de Limberch appeared when his Dobrigau allod was sold to Waldsassen. In 1242 an Ulrich von Linperch sued the monastery because his brother Heinrich u. a. sold the castle to the monastery. With the sale to Waldsassen, Leonberg Castle disappears from history. The Leonbergers appear as vassals of the Landgraves of Leuchtenberg until around 1270 , but without having acquired new possessions.
Location and appearance
This presumed castle foundation in the 12th century was probably just a motte (tower hill castle) with a farm yard . In a book of pastor Ignatius Hartung about the parish of Leonberg, a pen letter from 1420 is cited, according to which an abbot Martin converted the seat of Leonberg into a parish. It is possible that the current rectory (built in 1772 on the site of an earlier four-sided courtyard) goes back to the former manor.
