Grossensterz

Großensterz (Bavarian: Grousnstaaz) is a street green village in the Tirschenreuth district . Together with Kleinsterz and the hamlet of Hammermühle, it formed the community of Großensterz until the community reform that resulted in the town of Mitterteich on April 1, 1971 .

Grossensterz is still rural today. The agricultural properties, consistently laid out in a square shape, are lined up on both sides of the avenue. The predominantly gable-facing farmhouses are consistently two-story stone buildings. Half-timbered buildings do not (any longer) occur - unlike in some villages in the district and in Egerland . The houses are kept in a simple baroque style, which was also used for the new buildings built in recent years. The outer walls are usually structured by color-contrasting plaster strips along the floors and building edges. In the roof shape outweighing hipped roof . The place has been preserved in its original form as a street green village, free of disfiguring new building areas.

The farms are known by their farm names , which are mainly derived from the first names of previous owners, such as B. Doamer (derived from Thomas), Hansgirgel (Hans-Georg), Hansmatz (Hans-Matthias), Preiß'n etc.

Around 1910, as a reaction to a fire accident in 1907, the local volunteer fire department was founded.

Grossensterz belongs to the Catholic parish of Leonberg (Upper Palatinate) .

The village has been closely associated with the Waldsassen monastery since its early history . It was first mentioned in a document in 1224.
