Reichensteinmauer Castle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The lost Reichensteinmauer Castle was in the Upper Palatinate municipality of Pechbrunn in the Tirschenreuth district .

history

The first mention of the castle Reichensteinmauer (or even just stone wall ) can be found around 1520 in a report by forester Sieder von Kloster Waldsassen . Immediately after the mention of Melteuer Castle , it is called a desolate castle to be tried between the Reichenstein walls . This castle was probably built when the regio egere was being developed. Since the Marquis Rasp von Melteuer was previously given as the owner of the castle in 1520 , the castle was probably still habitable at that time and only then fell into disrepair.

location

The location of the castle is recorded on several historical maps. One from 1579 shows a steep hill in a bend in a brook south of a mill called Pechbrunn on the Seibertsbach, on the summit of which there are two one-story buildings called courtyards . Maps from 1620 to 1772 show the ruins of a rectangular building, behind which a tall tower rises, and which are known as old rudera . The location of the castle is equated with the Steinhübel, which is 740 m east-southeast of the church of Pechbrunn. The hill was crowned by a basalt rock until 1870 , which was almost completely demolished for the construction of the railway. Adjacent to a north-eastern basalt wall there are pits, which are known as treasure dig holes (hence the name Reichen Steinmauer, as the legends tell of a rich treasure here that was never found).
