The castle was part of the Sulzbach family . After Sulzbacher's death, Plößberg came to the Staufer . In 1261 Alheide de Plesperch and her daughter are mentioned, both of whom enter the Schönthal monastery . In 1270 Fredericus , Ulricus ambo de Plezberc are mentioned as witnesses of the Landgraves of Leuchtenberg , so they are now ministerials of the Leuchtenbergers. Around 1350 the Gleißenthalers are located as Plößberg. The first of them is Jakob Gleißenthaler von Plößberg . In 1360 Plößberg became a Bohemian fiefdom , but legally belongs to the Floß office . Around 1412 Gebhard Stoer is named as the fiefdom holder, followed by Hans Stoer . In May 1428 the village was burned down by the Hussites . Stephan Prenger I is mentioned here in 1477, followed by his widow and son Stephan Prenger II , who was executed in Floß for robbery in 1531. Jörg Pleysteiner is mentioned here in 1527 and Andreas Trautenberg zu Schönbrunn and Plößberg from 1532 to 1543 . In 1546 Christoph von Giech is the fief holder, in 1549 Georg von Sparneck . In 1560 the heirs of Florian Ochs sold Plösenberg to Sigmund Gfeller von Sachsengrün . In 1565 it came to Martin von Rosenau , who was followed by his son Wolfgang Simon until 1600. After that came Joseph Adam voon Raittenbach and in 1613 Ulrich von Raittenbach zu Plößberg . The von Reitzenstein barons owned the estate until 1696 and that of Sazenhofen until the end of the 18th century .

End of Castle Plößberg

The Plößberg farmers, angry because of the behavior of the landlord Wolfgang Anton von Sazenhofen , set fire to the castle in 1751 (or 1754). As a result, today's New Palace was built at this point . The year 1614 is carved on a lintel on this, which may indicate a reconstruction of the castle. The ruins of the burned down castle remained until 1783; In a basement room below there was a well this extension was also visible on the local newspaper from 1840.

Remnants of this building with 2 m thick walls were discovered during construction work in 2000; no archaeological protection took place. The remains are in the garden of the “Gasthof Bayerischer Hof” that exists here.
