Höflas Castle

The listed Höflas Castle is located in the district of the same name in the Upper Palatinate town of Kemnath in the Tirschenreuth district (Höflas 4a and b).

history

Höflas was founded by the Babenbergs and may have existed since the 9th century. The Landgraves von Leuchtenberg were appointed as bailiffs for the administration. In 1279 Gebhard IV. Von Leuchtenberg pledged Höflas to his brother Friedrich II. In 1283, he sold these properties to the Wittelsbach Duke Ludwig of Bavaria . From then on, the Wittelsbachers exercised the bailiwick rights. How long Höflas remained in the possession of the Babenbergers is uncertain. In 1375, “Ott Irelbechzu den Höfleins ”as the owner of the residence. His successor was the "Chunrat Erlbekch zu dem Höfleins" named in 1417. He was followed in 1440 by Ulrich Erlbeck, who then called himself von Höflas. His son Hans Erlbeck zum Höflas was mentioned from 1419 to 1448. Fritz Erlbeck von Höflas followed in 1480. In the Palatine Landsassenmatrikeln "Jorig Irlbeckh to Hoffles" and to 1550 are 1518-1541 "Georig Irlbeckh to Höffles" called "Hanns Irlbeckh to Hoffles". The seat was then sold to Friedrich von Eyb , and in the same year ownership passed to Lutz von Eyb. In 1778 and 1783, "Freyherr von Lindenfels " is named as the owner.

Höflas Castle today

The inconspicuous palace from 1665 is located in the middle of the street village Höflas. It is a two-storey, plastered solid building with a gable roof , a round arch portal and a corner cuboid. The year "1655" with the abbreviation "HGM" is written on a lintel on the upper floor of the building; it is not known to which owner this inscription refers.
