The Cap des Phoques-de-Weddel ( French for Cape of the Weddell seals ) is a cape on the southeastern foothills of Carrel Island in the Géologie Archipelago off the coast of the East Antarctic Adélieland .
French scientists named it in 1977 after the Weddell seals often found here .
