Cape St. Mary's Ecological Reserve is a bird sanctuary ( Ecological Reserve, Bird Sanctuary ) on the Avalon Peninsula of the island of Newfoundland in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador .

Cape St. Mary's consists of a rocky stretch of coast on the southeast side of Newfoundland. The center of the breeding grounds is a 61-meter-high rock that is separated from the land, but only a few meters as the crow flies from the coast. The reserve is considered the largest bird reserve on the island.

Cape St. Mary's is a sight for tourists too. From the parking lot of the tourist information center you can get to the actual bird watching point within 15-30 minutes via an unpaved hiking trail along the steep coast . The area around the cape is very often found in thick fog .

Notoriety

Cape St. Mary's is one of the most famous capes on the island. Among other things, it is mentioned in a local folk song by Otto P. Kelland, Let Me Fish Off Cape St. Mary's .
