General

The choir was founded in 1993 by the conductor Eckhard Weyand, who was in charge until 2012. Since August 1, 2012, the choir director Christian J. Bonath has taken on the role of artistic director. In the short period of its existence, capella vocalis has made a name for itself far beyond the borders of Baden-Württemberg and is already one of the most famous boys' choirs in Germany. With around 45 concerts a year and with concert tours to Japan, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Luxembourg, China, Norway and France, the choir singers achieve amazing things in their free time. In 2005 capella vocalis was the only European choir to be invited to the Northern Lights Choral Festival in Fairbanks and Anchorage (Alaska). In 2008 he traveled to China twice, to Beijing and Shanghai. In 2013 the choir went on a trip to Japan. In 2016 the choir made a guest appearance in Argentina at the invitation of the German embassy. The ensemble has had a media partnership with SWR 2 since 2015, from which four large productions with works by Telemann (6 Advent and Christmas cantatas), Graupner (four Whitsun cantatas) and Sheriff (Bereshit cantatas) have emerged. In addition to concerts with a cappella music and oratorio works, the ensemble is devoting its own series "Music of our time" to new music. In addition, the choir also focuses on music education, for which the formation has created a special format for children's concerts.
