Captain Beyond
Captain Beyond (German for the captain behind it ) was an American progressive rock band that was founded in Los Angeles in 1971 .
Members of Captain Beyond were Bobby Caldwell (drums) (ex- Johnny Winter ), Lee Dorman (bass guitar) (ex- Iron Butterfly ), Rod Evans (vocals) (ex- Deep Purple ) and Larry "El Rhino" Reinhardt (* 1948) ; † January 2, 2012, guitar) (Ex-Iron Butterfly). The first album was dedicated to the late guitarist Duane Allman .
The band broke up after their second album in 1973. In 1976 it was re-established with a new drummer. After the release of the album Dawn Explosion , they broke up again in 1978. Another reincarnation took place in 2000 - it was also short-lived. Even if Captain Beyond achieved a certain cult status within the hard rock scene , it was never commercially successful.
In 2015, Caldwell tried again with new members and they began touring. An album of archive material was released in 2017.
