Capu Tafunatu - the perforated mountain

The Capu Tafunatu is a 2343  m high mountain in Corsica , eight kilometers southwest of the highest mountain in Corsica, Monte Cinto . As a special feature, it has a hole about 30 meters in diameter below its apex.

According to legend, the devil forged a scythe using the ridge of the nearby Paglia Orba as an anvil. But since the blade broke while forging, he smashed the hammer against the mountain, creating the hole. The hammer finally struck the coast, creating the Bay of Calvi .

In certain meteorological constellations it happens that clouds move directly through the hole in the mountain: "The mountain is smoking."

The hole of Capo Tafunatu can be reached by climbing at difficulty level II .

On the southern slope of the Capu Tafunatu rises to 1991 m above sea level of Golo .
