The (Monte) Carè Alto ( 3465 m slm ) is one of the main glaciated peaks of the Adamello-Presanella group in the Italian southern Alps . It was first climbed in 1865 by H. F. Montgomery and S. Taylor.
Due to its advanced position in front of the entire group, it forms its distinctive south-eastern cornerstone. During the mountain war of 1915–1918 , the summit represented an important point on the Austrian front in the Adamello-Presanella group due to this particular strategically important position. The ridges of the mountain were therefore provided with positions, field guards and connecting paths during the war A field cable car from Pinzolo to the highest point was built to supply the continuously occupied summit .
Common routes on the Carè Alto lead over the Lares glacier (on the summit structure II and ice / snow up to 45 °), the east ridge (combined, III) and the south ridge (in good conditions pure rock climb, point III). The route over the very flat Lares glacier is also feasible as a ski tour with climbing at the summit.
