Car Mechanic Simulator 2018 is a simulation video game developed by the Polish studio Red Dot Games that shows the work of a car mechanic . It was released on July 28, 2017 for Microsoft Windows , June 25, 2019 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and February 15, 2019 for Nintendo Switch . A simplified version for mobile platforms was released in June 2018. The game is the third in the Car Mechanic Simulator series after Car Mechanic Simulator 2014 and Car Mechanic Simulator 2015 .

Gameplay

The game is played from a first-person perspective , with the player free to move around the shop , showrooms and barns where damaged cars can be bought for repair and / or resale. The player has access to a wide variety of tools, most of which are unlocked by completing jobs and gaining experience. In the course of the game, the player expands his workshop and can therefore carry out increasingly complex repairs and the restoration of classic cars .

During the game, the various components of the vehicle's engine , suspension and chassis are examined, and damaged components are identified and replaced. This can be done by purchasing a replacement component or, at higher levels, by repairing the existing component. Engines are rendered in great detail, so the player must realistically remove parts to access the appropriate component. To accomplish the required task, the player must use realistic hardware such as a tire balancer , a spring balancer, a detailing kit, and a motor mount.

Further areas of the work room will be unlocked in the course of the game. These include a test track where problems with a car's brakes and suspension can be identified, and a paint shop where the car body is painted and adjusted.

reception

Car Mechanic Simulator received mixed to positive reviews with a rating of 6.8 on Metacritic .

Rock Paper Shotgun called the game "uniquely addicting and cathartic" and criticized a large number of errors in the original version as well as a number of design choices. A check after the patch was completed showed that the technical problems had been resolved.

The Nintendo Switch version of the game was heavily criticized by the Nintendo Enthusiast , who criticized it as a port of the mobile version and described it as "a really sad attempt to cash in on unsuspecting buyers."

Downloadable content

Various downloadable content is available for Car Mechanic Simulator 2018 , the majority of which expands the range of vehicles. In contrast to the cars in the base game, which are fictitious analogies to real cars, the DLC cars are officially licensed replicas. These cars are integrated into the existing game and marked with a "DLC" banner in their description.

In addition to the cars, a free tuning DLC was released on October 30, 2017 . This increases the number of cosmetic upgrades and high-performance parts that can be used to enhance player-built vehicles. The player can also unlock a Dyno , which they can use to check how much the vehicle has improved compared to its previous state.
