Caracol Televisión SA (acronym for Cadena Radial Colombiana de Televisión SA ) is a privately owned Colombian media company that operates television and radio stations . With 1950 employees (2020) Caracol TV produces multi-platform content and distributes it to the global market via international channels. Caracol Televisión also commercializes media such as newspapers, magazines, radio and electronic media. In 2008, Caracol Televisión SA, with its subsidiaries Caracol TV and Television Corporation of America, was one of the five largest media companies in Latin America , with a presence in over 50 countries worldwide.

Caracol Televisión belongs to the Grupo Valorem of the entrepreneur and billionaire Julio Mario Santo Domingo . The Spanish Prisa Group has been co-owner since 2003 .

Caracol TV-Productions also provide services in Colombia for international partners and co-productions. There are global joint ventures with renowned companies such as ABC, CBS, FOX, The CW, Telemundo, TV Globo, RCTI, Global Television Network, RTI Colombia, TV Azteca, Azteca America, Sony Pictures Television International, TVE, BE-TV, RCTV Internacional, ABS-CBN, GMA Network and MediaCorp.

history

The station was founded in 1969. In the period up to 2012 there were technical changes, different program orientations and changes of ownership. In 1967 the National Radio and Television Institute of Colombia ( Inravisión ) issued a call for tenders for programming 45 hours per week. In 1969 what was then Radio Caracol TV was renamed Caracol Televisión SA.

In 1987, the Valores Bavaria SA group (now Valórem SA) acquired a majority stake and began modernizing the technical and administrative level. In 2007 the new headquarters was built in the La Floresta district of Bogotá. Previously, the station's departments were operating in different buildings around Bogotá.
