Carcharhinus macrops is a little known shark art from the family of the requiem shark (Carcharhinidae). It occurs in the South China Sea . The 76.5 cm long holotype wascaught offthe Paracel Islands .

features

Carcharhinus macrops has a moderately compact body and is similar to the bull shark ( C. leucas ), but differs from it by its oval, relatively large eyes, the longer snout and nasal pits with a very small triangular flap at the inner end. Carcharhinus macrops differs from the similar silk shark ( C. falciformis ) in the absence of the interdorsal ridge between the two dorsal fins. The eyes have a nictitating membrane and there is no injection hole . Its nostrils are closer to the tip of the snout than to the large and slightly curved mouth. The upper labial folds around the corners of the mouth are very short. The teeth in the upper jaw are slightly slanted and have a narrow triangular tip, the sides of which are finely sawn with increasingly coarse serrations towards the outside. The lower jaw teeth are smooth and each consist of a slender upright point and a broad base with a small central point on either side. The gill slits are medium in length. The last two lie above the base of the pectoral fin. The pectoral fins are large and sickle-shaped. When they are placed against the body, their outer tips reach behind the tip of the first dorsal fin. The first dorsal fin is large. It begins in front of the trailing edge of the pectoral fins. Its free-standing area is longer than the base of the second dorsal fin. The second dorsal fin is small and starts just in front of the anal fin. The caudal fin is longer than the head. The posterior part of its lower lobe is indented.
