The Cardiff University School of Medicine (Welsh: Ysgol Feddygaeth Prifysgol Caerdydd; formerly: Welsh National School of Medicine (until 1984), then University of Wales College of Medicine ) is the medical "department" of Cardiff University . It is based in Cardiff , Wales ( United Kingdom ). It was founded in 1893 as part of the University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire and inaugurated in 1894. Cardiff University School of Medicine is one of the largest medical schools in the United Kingdom and employs approximately 500 academic staff. About 1000 students and 1100 doctoral students are enrolled in the medical and scientific courses.
