Caren Hartley

Caren Hartley (* 1984 ) is a British blacksmith and bicycle frame designer and builder. A bicycle that she designed and built by hand won an award at the British show for international frame builders Bespoked 2015.

Life

Caren Hartley studied at the Royal College of Art . During this time and after graduating, she worked on sculptures in major art projects. Hartley first founded the studio "Made By Ore" in Walthamstow , London with her fellow student Lucie Gledhilldie for jewelry and silversmith work. As a passionate cyclist, she used her training to build a frame for herself. She professionalized this and founded her company "Hartley Cycles" in 2013. With her hand-built bicycles, she wants more women to ride the streets of London.

Hartley uses Reynolds and Columbus tubing sets for the frame construction .

Awards

  • For Demi Porkeur , she won the Best Utility Bike award at the Bespoked Bristol 2015 hand-built bike show .
  • Hartley Design received one of three Lady Velo Choice Awards at Bespoked Bristol 2016 .

  • Cycle Revolution , Design Museum London , November 18, 2015 to June 30, 2016 Caren Hartley was one of the five independent British bicycle frame designers who contributed to the exhibition.
