Carew Tower (2007)

The Carew Tower is the landmark of Cincinnati at 574 feet (about 175 meters) .

Construction of the tower began in September 1929, a month before the big stock market crash, Black Friday . The impact of the crash on the design of the building was significant. Instead of the planned limestone facade, cheaper bricks were used. Furthermore, decorative metalwork on the facade was reduced.

Since its completion in 1931, the building has been used for offices, shops and hotel rooms. There is also an open viewing platform on the 49th floor. In good weather you can enjoy the view of three states: Ohio , Kentucky and Indiana . At $ 4, the observation deck is one of the most affordable "must-see" attractions in Cincinnati.

The Carew Tower has been listed as a building on the National Register of Historic Places since August 1982 . In April 1994 it was awarded the status of a National Historic Landmark , where it is run as the Carew Tower-Netherland Plaza Hotel .
