Carioca (oil field)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Carioca (or sugar loaf ) is an oil field off the Brazilian coast. It is located in the Campos Basin , about 273 km south of Rio de Janeiro at a depth of 2140 m. The find, announced on September 10, 2007, was quickly hailed as one of the largest deposits. Haroldo Lima , chairman of the National Petroleum Agency (ANP), spoke of an amount of up to 33 billion barrels , but this was quickly revised as the exploration status amounted to a test well at the time. In April 2011, Lima announced further test wells.

Petrobras (45%), BG Group (30%) and Repsol YPF Brasil SA (25%) have production rights to Carioca .
