Carl's Jr. is an American fast food restaurant chain, which primarily on the West Coast of the United States is located.

The first Carl's Jr. Restaurants were opened by Carl Karcher in 1956 as a small offshoot of the Carl's Drive-In Barbeque, which he founded in Anaheim in 1945 . Carl's Jr. currently consists of over 1000 restaurants in 13 US states as well as in Canada , the People's Republic of China , Turkey , Spain , Mexico , Guam , Russia , Belarus , Thailand , the Philippines , Vietnam , New Zealand , Brazil , Singapore , Malaysia, Indonesia and Denmark, France.

The parent company CKE Restaurants also owns other fast food chains , including Hardee's .
