Carl-Wilhelm Edding

Carl-Wilhelm Edding (born July 20, 1930 in Hamburg ; died April 27, 2021 there ) was a German entrepreneur . According to him, are Edding - markers named. His family name thus became a generic name .

Life

At the beginning of his career, Edding worked for a Japanese company that sold products from Asia in Germany. In doing so, he became aware of the felt-tip pen of a Japanese business partner. Since his employer was not interested in it, he wanted to make something of it himself and in 1960, together with his school friend Volker Detlef Ledermann, founded the Edding company in Hamburg-Barmbek , which imported and sold these pens from Japan to Germany. In order not to have to invest money in registering a brand name , the founders decided to use one of their last names. They decided on Eddingbecause it appeared more international. Edding was responsible for the further development of the products, his partner Ledermann took care of sales at home and abroad. In 1986 Edding retired from the business after a burnout . He lived in Hamburg-Volksdorf .
