The Edding AG is a listed stationery manufacturer based in Ahrensburg , Schleswig-Holstein .

Edding or edding is the trade name for felt-tip pens , markers and other writing implements as well as for color sprays and nail polish . Edding pens are available in different colors and line widths.

Companies

The company was founded in 1960 in Hamburg - Barmbek by Carl-Wilhelm Edding and Volker Detlef Ledermann with starting capital of 500 DM. The two company founders agreed on the company name edding because they considered it more memorable and international. At first they only imported felt-tip pens from Japan , until they started using the marker “edding No. 1 ”offered their first own product and were able to achieve sensational market success straight away. Initially, these markers were only important for warehouse management and freight forwarding, until they found their way into office management, workshops and studios and, thanks to their special properties, could also be used on hot, greasy or damp surfaces. The company's product range has been expanded to around 200 markers to date.

In 1965, products (presentation boards) for visual communication were added to the range under the “planMASTER” brand. Five years later the head office was relocated to Ahrensburg .

Since 1986, the year Carl-Wilhelm Edding left the company, the company's shares have been traded on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. In the same year the sales and logistics center was built in Wunstorf .

Edding was purely a sales company until 1992. After the acquisition of the East German brand " Markant " from Singwitz near Bautzen , the first own production facility in Germany was established in 1993 in Bautzen under the subsidiary "VD Ledermann & Co. GmbH". In 2016 it had a production volume of 85 million pieces annually. The plant also has the status of a competence center in the group of companies.

The Dutch company "LEGA Industrie BV" in Lochem was taken over in 1998 and the two ranges LEGA and planMaster will be continued in 1999 under the Legamaster brand. With the takeover, the branches "edding Lega International BV" in the Netherlands and in Mechelen in Belgium were created.

Further expansion began in 2000 and branches were established in Italy (until 2010), Greece and Argentina and, since 2001, in France and Turkey. Edding AG as an operational holding company now has subsidiaries in 10 countries. Edding International GmbH is responsible for production and sales.

In the 2015 financial year, Edding AG achieved consolidated sales of EUR 138.4 million (2010: EUR 109.3 million) . 41% of sales were achieved in Germany, 49% in the rest of Europe and 10% overseas (mainly Latin America).

In February 2010 Edding outsourced the German sales department for visual communication to Legamaster GmbH. The company achieves the greatest sales growth with e-boards, interactive white boards on which entries on whiteboard surfaces are digitized and transmitted to computer systems. In the area of markers, the “edding Funtastics” sub-brand will be introduced for children aged 6 and over.

The company has been managed by CEO Per Ledermann (son of co-founder Volker Ledermann) since 2005 . At present (2017) the board has three members.
