Friedrich Edding
Friedrich Georg Peter Edding (born June 23, 1909 in Kiel , † September 14, 2002 in Berlin ) was a German education economist .
Life
Friedrich Edding was born the son of a Protestant pastor. 1915-27 he attended the humanistic high school in Kiel. From 1927 Edding studied theology in Bonn and Berlin, switched to history and German studies in the sixth semester . He passed the state examination in Kiel and was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. He then worked in the Reich Statistical Office in Berlin until he was called up for military service in 1943 and was taken prisoner of war.
1948–59 he worked at the Institute for World Economy at the University of Kiel and specialized in the economics of education . In 1959 Edding was appointed professor for economics of education at the University for International Educational Research in Frankfurt / Main. From 1964 he was a professor at the TU Berlin until he retired in 1977. Until 1979 he was director at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development there .
On February 13, 1980, Edding received from the Free University of Berlin “for his fundamental work on the economics of education in the German-speaking area and for his excellent contributions in the field of economics of education, in particular economics and the business administration of the educational budget, for his persistent promotion of understanding for the application of economic categories in education and for its academic integrity in educational policy debates ”was awarded the honorary doctorate.
Friedrich Edding died in Berlin in 2002 at the age of 92. His grave is in the Zehlendorf cemetery .
Act
In the education commission of the German Education Council , he saw the education system from an economic and financial point of view, which made him known at home and abroad.
In the professorial "dispute about talent and social situation" (Arnold), the Würzburg scholar had numerous colleagues. Edding demonstrated that not only working-class children in the whole of Germany, but also other schoolchildren in several federal states are disadvantaged.
Edding advised German and international organizations on educational policy issues (including UNESCO , the International Institute for Educational Planing and the OECD ).
Memberships
Edding was a member of the Education Commission of the German Education Council (1966–72), the Scientific Advisory Board of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and the Expert Commission on the Costs and Financing of Vocational Education and Training. 1971–74 he was also its chairman; from 1975 for two years of the "Committee for Educational Economics" of the Society for Economic and Social Sciences. He was one of the founders of the OECD-funded Study Group in the Economics of Education.
