Carl Brisson (* December 24, 1893 in Copenhagen as Carl Frederik Ejnar Pedersen , † September 25, 1958 ibid) was a Danish actor .
life and career
In the 1910s, Brisson was at times successful as a middleweight boxer before he turned to acting. Thanks to his tenor voice, he was long considered a popular and revered stage actor in England, and Count Danilo in The Merry Widow was one of his star roles .
Although he saw himself mainly as a stage actor, he also made 13 films between 1918 and 1935, in each of which he was seen in the lead role. He played leading roles in The World Champion (1927) and The Man from the Isle of Man (1929), two silent films directed by Alfred Hitchcock . After his film successes in Denmark and England, he made his last films in Hollywood . In Mitchell Leisen's Murder at the Vanities , he presented Arthur Johnston's famous song "Cocktails for Two" for the first time. Although he was also the main actor in his Hollywood films, he was unable to establish himself as a star permanently and returned to Europe, where he continued his stage career.
Brisson was married to Cleo Willard Brisson from 1915 until his death. His son was Frederick Brisson (1912-1984), who later worked as a film producer in the USA and was married to the actress Rosalind Russell .
