Carl Franz Hossfeld
Carl Franz Hossfeld (* 1807 ; † in Bern ) was a German- Swiss cabinet maker .
Life
The cabinet maker Hossfeld originally came from Germany (probably from today's Wartburg district ) and immigrated to Switzerland. After he had acquired the citizenship of Bözingen near Biel / Bienne, he was allowed to run a workshop on Judengasse in Bern. He had six children with his wife Maria Schorer from Wangen an der Aare . A printed manufacturer label made it possible to identify this busy master of the late Biedermeier period and to ascribe a large number of pieces of furniture to him (chests of drawers, writing furniture, consoles). According to the etiquette, he had his workshop at Judengasse 113 (today Amthausgasse ) in Bern. After Mathäus Funk , Johannes Äbersold and Christoph Hopfengärtner, he is the last great Bernese cabinet maker whose furniture of the highest quality is widely available.
A large number of Carl Franz Hossfeld's works can be found in Jegenstorf Castle near Bern.
