Johannes Äbersold (baptized in Bern in 1737 ; † 1812 there ) was a Swiss cabinet maker .

In 1770 Johannes Äbersold settled in Bern after his wanderings and in January 1780 took part in the table-making championship. So far, only known about his training is that he stayed in Paris in 1767 . Its stylistic and architectural closeness to the Dresden-based Ebenisten cannot be overlooked. Äbersold is a representative of the transition , the style, which combines features of Rococo and Classicism . He combined the two styles in a very creative way. Chests of drawers from him are known that are still in the shape of Mathäus Funk , but have a classicistic veneer and fittings.

Johannes Äbersold was forgotten after his death. Numerous pieces of furniture from his hand were attributed to either Mathäus Funk or Christoph Hopfengärtner , depending on the stylistic design , until Hermann von Fischer came across the name in written sources in 1999 and was able to secure a group of furniture for Äbersold.
