Karl Friedrich Tröltsch also Carl Friedrich Tröltsch (born June 11, 1729 in Weißenburg in Nordgau ; † December 27, 1804 in Erlangen ) was a German lawyer and author .

Life

Tröltsch studied law and then worked as a legal scholar in Erlangen . Although he was designated as a councilor, he never assumed any public office or title.

Karl Friedrich Tröltsch studied the history of Franconia and Brandenburg , but did not have his collected knowledge and comments printed. He even destroyed some of his own manuscripts , which he had worked on for years. He had a great general knowledge and was very familiar with the old and new languages. He published most of his works anonymously .

Tröltsch was well disposed towards all citizens, but was afraid of their dealings and connections. For this fear he never went to a company, did not appear in public places, and did not give or accept any visits. He lived like this in Erlangen for over 30 years and was considered the greatest eccentric and hermit in his city. Most of the time he spent as a needy, but he kept this a secret from the others.
