Carl Gustav Blanckertz (born June 1, 1873 in Düsseldorf , † January 26, 1953 in Düsseldorf) was a German Protestant businessman who was awarded the "Prussian State Medal for Commercial Achievements". His technical improvements in typewriter work were particularly noticed, but also his prints, which appeared in Wasmuth's monthly magazine for architecture .

history

Blanckertz married on June 13, 1905 in Dover Dorothea Mathilde, b. Böhmer (born December 18, 1869 in Wiesbaden, † June 9, 1957 in Düsseldorf-Oberkassel).

In 1889 CGBlanckertz ran a paper and Wholesaling of writing materials at Hubertusstr. 32. Blanckertz lived at Hubertusstraße 40. His office building at Hubertusstraße 34, built in 1900, was well known. The Düsseldorf architects and engineers' association praised the facade design and floor plan of the house. The building was a design by Peter Paul Fuchs with echoes of " English forms built" and counted with the office space (ground floor), warehouses (Keller u. Hofunterkellerungen) and the blueprint Institute (3rd floor) to the "commercial buildings [n] for special lines of business "

"The business building of the company CG Blanckertz, Hubertusstrasse 34, executed in 1900 by the architect PP Fuchs, contains the office rooms on the ground floor (Fig. 498), the warehouses in the basement and the courtyard cellars, and on the third upper floor - with a large exposure floor - the company's blueprint facility. The painterly structure of the exterior appearance, based on English forms, followed from the peculiarity of the property and the construction task (Fig. 499). The cost of the mostly massive and fire-proof building totaled 80,000 M, or 23 M for the cubic meter of enclosed space. "

In the Düsseldorf address book from 1938, CG Blanckertz is named as the owner of the house at Hubertusstrasse 34. However, Blanckertz himself lived at Markgrafenstrasse 29 from June 16, 1937. He died on January 26, 1953 in Düsseldorf-Oberkassel .

Works

Concept holder

Document holder for typewriter work

The company CG Blanckertz became known for improving work with the typewriter. The “Ideal” concept holder developed by the company could be attached to the table in any position with a screw clamp. It was also characterized by its own line setting, which should "make reading very easy":

"Dr. Schulte's recommended concept and lamp holder is certainly a very useful device. But you can also help yourself in other ways. As a lamp alone, I recommend the one from Lobensteiner Metallwerke. It can be mounted on any machine and gives a bright and even light. Since the sideways turning of the eyes with a stationary head is more extensive than the upward and downward turning (raising and lowering of the eyes), and perhaps more pleasant for some, not everyone will find the arrangement of the concept above the clamped typewriter paper comfortable. In the latter position, the concept also hides the part of the paper already described and makes it difficult to look up or compare. The concept holder "I deal" from the company CG Blanckertz in Düsseldorf is more suitable for this, which can be attached to the typewriter table in any position with a screw clamp and has its own line setting which makes reading very easy [...] "

Prints

The works of the Düsseldorf company CG Blanckertz also included brochures and samples that appeared in “Wasmuth's monthly magazine for architecture”. The "Geographischer Anzeiger" describes a map from the Düsseldorf company CG Blanckertz as an "admirable achievement". Other works by the company included various Pulchra prints and colored topographic maps.
