Carl Haber

Carl Josef Gustav Haber (born December 3, 1842 in Halberstadt ; † 1895 ) was a co-founder of a consumer association, a credit union and the large-scale purchasing company Deutscher Consumvereine mbH (GEG).

Carl Haber learned in the grocery industry. In the 1860s he was a co-founder of the Konsumverein Bündheim- Harzburg eGmH He was managing director of the Konsumverein until his death.

In 1880 he founded a "savings and advance payment association" with 34 citizens (including master craftsmen, merchants, hoteliers and civil servants) in Neustadt-Harzburg.

On March 16, 1881, the credit union opened its business in his house (today Breite Strasse 24). As a cashier he formed the first board of directors with the supervisor Friedrich Bock and the editor Wilhelm Rasche (controller).

In 1894 he was one of the two official co-founders of the Großeinkaufs-Gesellschaft Deutscher Consumvereine mbH (GEG), Hamburg. When the company was founded, he also signed 1,000 marks out of a total of 34,500 marks for his consumer association.

He was a member of the supervisory board of this consumer cooperative goods and economic center until his death in 1895.
