Carl Stichnath

Carl Stichnath (born May 11, 1863 in Bremen ; † December 23, 1933 in Bremen) was a German master chimney sweep, president of the Bremen Chamber of Commerce , Bremen politician and senator (DDP).

biography

Training, occupation and chamber work

Stichnath was the son of a master chimney sweep. He graduated from secondary school and, like his father, learned the trade of a chimney sweep . In 1885 the chimney sweep's guild was founded in Bremen in which he soon assumed a leading position as a master chimney sweep.

As a medium-sized company, he was a member of the Bremen Chamber of Commerce from 1903 to 1933. Stichnath was a board member, vice-president and then president (president) of the Bremen Chamber of Commerce in 1913, 1915, 1917, 1919, 1931 and 1933. In the chamber and guild he was chairman of the journeyman's examination committee. He was second chairman in the confederation of guilds and commercial associations . He acted as a representative of Bremen in the Reich Association of German Crafts .

His hobby was beekeeping .

politics

Stichnath was elected to the Bremen citizenship from 1902 to 1918 for the 4th grade in the Bremen 8-class suffrage. Here he was active in various deputations . In 1918 he was Vice President of the City Council.

In early 1919 he joined the liberal German Democratic Party (DDP). In 1919/20 he was a member of the Bremen National Assembly . In June 1920 he was appointed to the Bremen Senate by Mayor Martin Donandt (non-party) in the Senate from 1920 to 1925 and from 1925 to 1928. Here he was responsible for various authorities and worked in several deputations. Here, too, he made a lasting contribution to training in the craft. He left the Senate in spring 1928 for health reasons.

Honors

  • The Stichnathstrasse in Bremen- Kattenturm was named after him in 1968.
