Carl IX. August Graf von und zu Egloffstein (born October 24, 1795 in Weimar , † December 25, 1887 in Arklitten ) was a German landowner and member of parliament.

Life

Egloffstein was the son of Gottfried Friedrich Leopold III. Count von und zu Egloffstein. The father was raised to the rank of count in 1786. The marriage of his mother Henriette Countess von Egloffstein (1773–1864) was unhappy. The mother divorced in 1803. The sisters Carlolie (1789–1868), Julie von Egloffstein (1792–1869) and Auguste (1796–1862) belonged to Goethe's circle in Weimar . Egloffstein married on June 25, 1823 in Neuwied Charlotte Sophie Freiin von und zu Egloffstein (* February 5, 1796, † February 23, 1864 in Arklitten), the daughter of the Prussian government councilor Christian II. August Friedrich Dietrich Rudolf Carl Freiherr von und zu Egloffstein .

Egloffstein completed a forestry degree in Berlin from 1811 and from 1813 served as a volunteer hunter in the Prussian light guard cavalry regiment. In 1814 he became Premier Lieutenant in Paris and in 1815 Brigade Adjutant. In 1821 he was transferred to the Great General Staff and soon afterwards Governor of Princes Adalbert and Waldemar of Prussia . In 1834 he took his leave as a major. From 1830 he was majorate in Arklitten and in Aftinten , district of Gerdauen . In 1838 he sold the Warnekam and Schönfließ estates.

In 1850 he was a member of the Volkshaus of the Erfurt Union Parliament . He resigned his mandate on June 13, 1850. Nachrücker was Botho Graf von Eulenburg .

In 1815 he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class and in the same year received the Imperial Russian Order of St. George .
