Carlisle is an inhabited unincorporated community in Trinity County in the US state of Texas with 68 people. The place was named after John Carlisle, who built mills in the area.
history
Carlisle is located 14 miles southwest of Groveton in southwest Trinity County. The area was first settled during the American Civil War . However, its growth did not begin until the late 19th century. After 1900 the railroad came to the area and Carlisle became a train station. In 1906 a post office was opened, which was closed again in 1955.
In the 1930s the population reached 100 people. The level remained roughly the same until 1990. Carlisle was a scattered agricultural settlement at the time. By the year 2000 the population had dropped to 68.
