Torsten Carlius

Torsten Carlius (* 1939 ; † November 23, 2005 in Shanghai , China ) was a Swedish sports official, former President of the WMA ( World Masters Athletics Association ) and since 2005 Secretary General of the WMA.

Life

Torsten Carlius held various high positions in the Swedish Athletics Federation for around 40 years. He was internationally known as the head of the Swedish youth and junior selection as well as the Swedish delegate at the annual EAA calendar congress and the European Junior Championships.

Carlius was long-time President of the WMA (World Masters Athletics Association); in summer 2005 he was elected general secretary of the WMA in San Sebastian / Donostia. Carlius has gained worldwide recognition for his commitment to senior athletics.

He was also a member of the IAAF Masters Committee, a member of the Executive Committee of the International Masters Games Association (IMGA) and an advisory member of the Council of the EVAA (European Masters Games Association).

Torsten Carlius died on November 23, 2005 at the age of 66 in Shanghai (China) of acute heart failure.
