Carlo Santini

Carlo Santini (* 1946 ) is an Italian classical philologist .

Santini studied Classical Philology (Latin and Greek) at the University of Perugia (with Aristide Colonna and Nino Scivoletto ). From 1970 he worked as an assistant at the University of Perugia. In 1981 he was appointed full professor of Latin literature and language. His research covers a wide area: he published essays and conference contributions on Greek and Roman poets and prose writers, on Middle and Neo-Latin and on Greek and Nordic mythology .

In 1979, Santini published a critical edition of Eutropius' Breviarium ab urbe condita , which has since been authoritative for textual criticism (reprinted in 1992). He published other monographs and editions on Germanicus , Silius Italicus and Lucius Cassius Hemina , as well as, together with Paolo Poccetti and Diego Poli, a history of the Latin language (1999), which was published in a German translation in 2005. He also edited the collection Prefazioni, prologhi, proemi di opere tecnico-scientifiche latine together with Nino Scivoletto (1990–1999).
