Carlo dall'Aquila

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Carlo dall'Aquila ( documented 1498 ) was an Italian sculptor .

Life

Carlo dall'Aquila is only known for a signed wooden sculpture “Maria with the Child” dated 1498 , which is now in Santa Maria di Legarano in Casperia . Nothing is known about his origins and training, but his few works show that he must have enjoyed a solid education. His compositions indicate a high level of craftsmanship, while the lifeless facial expressions of the figures appear provincial. Carlo dall'Aquila's works are similar to those of Silvestro dall'Aquila , who was working in L'Aquila in Lazio at the same time , so that one can also assume that Carlo dall'Aquila was active there. According to the current research situation, the relationship between the two and whether they were perhaps related remains open.

Based on the signed wooden Madonna, two other works in terracotta have been assigned to him to this day.
