Carlos Baliño

Carlos Baliño López (born February 13, 1848 in Havana , † June 18, 1926 ) was a Cuban politician. He was one of the first to introduce Marxist ideas to Cuba.

Baliño founded the Partido Revolucionario Cubano together with José Martí in 1892 and the Club de Propaganda Socialista in 1903 , which is today the first organization with a Marxist character in Cuba. He was later to found other socialist groups.

After the October Revolution in Russia in 1917, he ideologically approached Leninism and tried to align various socialist groups with communism . In 1925 he finally founded the Partido Comunista Cubano with Julio Antonio Mella and José Miguel Pérez .
