Carlos Chavez Ramirez
Carlos Chávez Ramírez (born June 13, 1899 in Popotla near Mexico City , † August 2, 1978 ibid) was a Mexican composer and music teacher .
Chavez is one of the most important Mexican composers of the 20th century . He became known far beyond his home country. In his music he combines influences of original Mexican, especially Indian folk music, with European new music , drawing on elements of neoclassicism . In addition, he shaped the Mexican musical life of his time in various administrative positions as orchestra leader and academic teacher. Among other things, he was a member of the Academia de Artes . In 1959 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences . In 1960 he was accepted as an honorary foreign member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters .
