Carlos Manuel Puebla (born September 11, 1917 in Manzanillo , † July 12, 1989 in Havana ) was a Cuban singer and songwriter.

In his mostly classical guitar songs with political texts he tells of the life of the people of Cuba. In 1953 he founded the Los Tradicionales group , with which he became well known in Cuba. His most successful song is Hasta siempre, comandante (1965) about the revolutionary Che Guevara . It was translated into many languages ​​(for example in German by Wolf Biermann ) and made him known on an international level.

Puebla belongs on the one hand to the tradition of the Trova Cubana , on the other hand his songs also laid the foundations for the Nueva Trova , which he characterized as a "song of new life, about creative work, song of hope".
