Carlos Santone

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Carlos Santone is an Australian roots musician with Latin American roots . Together with Natalie Pa'apa'a he founded the Australian roots band Blue King Brown . He's the band's bass player today.

Santone now manages BKB and is the head of the LION HOUSE RECORDS record label . He is also acting general manager of the Music Outback Foundation , a music and events company that organizes events for indigenous communities in the outback.

His musical career began as a street musician in Byron Bay , on the north coast of New South Wales. He originally played with Natalie Pa'apa'a as a percussion duo and partly as a line-up for the band Skin . Skin became a precursor to Blue King Brown. In 2004 the two of them moved to Melbourne. There they concentrated their work in the 8-piece urban roots collective , today Blue King Brown. Her debut single "Water" ran in heavy rotation on Australian radio stations and won the 2006 AIR Chart award.

In 2010, on the occasion of the 2010 tour, he commented on the camp of the indigenous population and how they deal with them in Australia on an internet portal for BKB.

“For us, reconciliation means respect. Respect for a culture and a people who lived on this land long before colonization. The indigenous peoples are deeply connected to this land in a way that non-indigenous peoples cannot be; and we have to respect that, the country defines them as one people and it defines their culture. Truth, education and understanding become respect and reconciliation. A tour like this is bound to stimulate discussion and raise questions, and open people's minds and hearts; we should be able to give people a different perspective on how they perceive indigenous history and see the current indigenous struggle. It's a beautiful culture right here on our doorstep. She should be hugged and respected - so we can then recognize the oneness with her. "
