Blue King Brown is an Australian soul and roots band from Melbourne .

history

The two founding members of the band Blue King Brown were Natalie Pa'apa'a and Carlos Santone , who also write the songs. They originally appeared as a percussion duo in the music scene in Byron Bay and made contacts with the roots scene in Australia . For example, they were allowed to take part in many performances by the John Butler Trio and other guests. In 2004 the two moved to Melbourne, where they met the other band members and formed Blue King Brown.

The first single Water , which was released on the first EP entitled Blue King Brown in 2005, was quickly included in the top rotation by the Australian radio station Triple J. In addition, Blue King Brown received the 2006 AIR Chart Award. In that year the album Stand Up was released , which contains rhythmically and melodically more complex pieces in contrast to the previous EP. The album was nominated for the J Award in 2006. In 2010 Natalie Pa'apa'a shot a video with her compatriot Gurrumul for the joint song "Gathu Mawula Revisited".

In recent years, the group has given the opener for Carlos Santana and Michael Franti & Spearhead , for Damian Marley , The Cat Empire and also for Silverchair and Powderfinger .

The band is politically active and supports some human rights organizations . On July 7, 2007, she performed at the Live Earth concert in Sydney .

“For us, reconciliation means respect. Respect for a culture and a people who lived on this land long before colonization. The indigenous peoples are deeply connected to this land in a way that non-indigenous peoples cannot be; and we have to respect that, the country defines them as one people and it defines their culture. Truth, education and understanding become respect and reconciliation. A tour like this is bound to stimulate discussion and raise questions, and open people's minds and hearts; we should be able to give people a different perspective on how they perceive indigenous history and see the current indigenous struggle. It's a beautiful culture right here on our doorstep. She should be hugged and respected - so we can then recognize the oneness with her. "
