Powderfinger was in 1989 Brisbane , Australia , founded rock band . They named themselves after the song of the same name by Neil Young from the album Rust Never Sleeps .

history

In the early stages from 1989, the band initially only played cover songs . After two EPs , the band switched to Polydor and released their first album, Parables for Wooden Ears , in 1994 , which did not sell well. After a few singles and tours through Australia, the band released the album Double Allergic in September 1996 , which reached position four, stayed in the top ten for ten weeks and sold a total of 200,000 times. In 1998 the album Internationalist was released, which stayed in the top 20 for over a year.

In 1999 the band received four awards from the Australian Recording Industry Association for best album, best rock album, best cover design and best song ( The Day You Come ). In 2000 the next album, Odyssey Number Five was recorded. After entering number one, it went four times platinum in just 13 weeks . The song My Kind of Scene was released on the soundtrack for Mission: Impossible II .

The album Vulture Street also reached number one on the Australian charts in 2003 and sold a total of 350,000 copies. After a few overseas gigs, the band returned to Australia and toured the Live on Vulture Street tour with the John Butler Trio . The live album These Days - Live in Concert includes an appearance in Sydney from this tour and, like the best of Fingerprints: Best of 1994-2000 , placed second on the Australian album charts in 2004.

In 2005 the band toured on Big Day Out and also played additional appearances in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne before the band took a break, in which Darren Middleton took care of his project Drag and Bernard Fanning took care of the release of a solo album.

The break would last until the beginning of 2007, when the recording of the album Dream Days at the Hotel Existence began in Los Angeles , the title of which refers to the novel The Brooklyn Revue by Paul Auster . It was unclear whether the album would be released on June 2nd as announced. The reason for this was that a song referred to the murder of an Aborigine in Great Palm Island , which was only heard on June 12th.

On April 9, 2010, the band announced during a press conference that they would split up in late 2010 after a final tour of Australia. Rumor has it that this move is based on the fact that Bernard Fanning wants to leave Australia with his family to settle in Spain.
