Bernard Fanning (born August 15, 1969 ) is an Australian singer and front man of the rock band Powderfinger and is currently successful as a solo artist in Australia . His first album went platinum five times in Australia.

Musical career

In 1989, Bernard Fanning met the musician Ian Haug , who was the lead singer of Powderfinger at the time. At the age of 15 he attended St Joseph's college, Gregory Terrace. Fanning also joined the group. At first he only sang in the background, but after a while he switched roles with Haug and from then on appeared as lead singer. He also brought Darren Middleton into the band, whom he knew from his school days. For more details on the band's history, see Powderfinger .

In 2003 Fanning appeared solo for the first time: he had a guest appearance in the film Ned Kelly and also contributed some songs for the soundtrack . In 2004 Powderfinger released a greatest hits album titled Fingerprints: The Best of Powderfinger, 1994-2000, and then announced that the band would take a creative break. Fanning took on the production of his friend Andrew Morris ' solo debut , called Little by Little , and then began work on his first solo album, which was recorded at Peter Gabriel 's Real World Studios . Tea and Sympathy went straight to number 1 on the Australian charts. The singles Wish you well , Songbird and the ballad Watch over me were also very successful.

In 2006 Powderfinger announced that a new album would be released. This was recorded in Los Angeles in early 2007 and released in Australia in June 2007.

On April 9, 2010, Powderfinger announced at a press conference that they wanted to break up at the end of the year. Rumor has it that this decision is based on the fact that Bernard Fanning and his family want to leave Australia to settle in Spain.
