Carlos Silva Freire

Carlos Miguel Lopes da Silva Freire (born September 29, 1907 in Lisbon , † November 10, 1961 in Chitado . Angola ) was a Portuguese general .

Career

Silva Freire went to Angola in May 1961 as the successor to General Monteiro Libório in the post of military commander. He was the commander in chief of the Portuguese armed forces stationed there and directed operations during the colonial war .

Honors

In June 1971 a street in the Freguesia Olivais in the Portuguese capital Lisbon was named after him.
