Chitado is a village and a municipality in Angola .

history

Carlos Silva Freire , Commander in Chief of the Portuguese Armed Forces in Angola during the Portuguese Colonial War (1961–1975), died in Chitado in 1961. While the place was largely untouched during the colonial war , the following Angolan civil war (1975-2002) left behind heavy damage and many minefields. After the end of the civil war in 2002, Chitado began to recover after demining, government reconstruction programs, and the general economic and social recovery in Angola.

administration

Chitado is the seat of a municipality of the same name (Comuna) in the district ( Município ) of Curoca , in the province of Cunene . 23,270 people live in the community (extrapolated estimate 2011). From now on, the 2014 census will provide reliable population data.

education

The municipality has 32 schools, 22 of which are primary schools and secondary schools. In 2012, the municipality recorded a teacher shortage, with 33 vacancies. Of the 3720 registered students in 2012, 70% completed the school year successfully. In 2014, the educational success of the 3,913 enrolled students reached a maximum of 95%, even if there is still a teacher shortage with only 88 teachers in the community. The school feeding program, however, now reaches 100% of the students.
