Curoca (also Kuroka ) is a small town and a district in Angola , in southwest Africa .

Place name

Until the independence of Angola in 1975, the small town had the Portuguese place name Vila de Aviz , after the Portuguese place Avis in old spelling. The place was the seat of the district of Curoca, which is named after the Curoca river that runs here . After 1975 the small town was also given the name of the district.

Curoca is a district ( Município ) in the province of Cunene . It covers an area of ​​7998 km². The population was estimated at 45,498 in 2014, after around 56,000 inhabitants in 2011. The 2014 census will henceforth provide reliable population data.

Two communities (Comunas) form the Curoca district:

The district has 25 towns. In addition to the parish seats, the most important are Manbonde, Tchipaunco, Tapela and Woru.
