Carlton Record Corporation was a New York record company that released pop music between 1958 and 1961 .

history

In October 1957 Joe Carlton, the former manager of the record company RCA Records , founded his own record company, which he named after his family name "Carlton Record Corporation". During its four-year production phase, the company only produced pop music from rock 'n' roll to easy listening . The catalog numbers of the single releases range from 450 to 605, the numbering of the long-playing records began with 100 and ended with 146. The first single was released in February 1958 with the unknown singer Tommy Frederick. In May 1958, the US music magazine Billbord listed the first Carlton record in the Hot 100 . The title Leroy by Jack Scott made it to eleventh place. Scott had switched from ABC Paramount to Carlton and became the label's most successful performer with nine Hot 100 listings. Anita Bryant began her recording career at Carlton. Her first single came out in May 1959, her first Hot 100 title Six Boys and Seven Girls (ranked 62) appeared on her second single in September 1959. She made it into the charts with eight Carlton titles, one of which was Paper Roses was most successful with fifth place.

The instrumental part at Carlton was taken over by the Monty Kelly orchestra, which also had a Hot 100 success with Summer Set at number 30. Country singer Kenny Rogers , who was successful much later , also released some of his first records with Carlton in 1958, without success. The last Hot 100 performers were the girl group The Chantels , which came in 14th and 29th with two titles in 1961. With over 20 listings in the Hot 100, Carlton Records was one of the successful record companies between 1958 and 1964. After more than 150 singles, several EPs and over 140 long-playing records , the company stopped production in 1964.
